Alien Journalist's POV

It's not a thing, and it's not matter, but it's the only thing that matters. What is it? reveal

My goal is to promote Beinghood, the felt moral kinship one has with every being, simply in virtue of shared experience, only because there is something like to be him. Beinghood is simple and childlike; As one poet once said: when I see a cat, I am for him. When I see a being, any being, I am for her, I want good for her.

I promote beinghood by following effective altruism's philosophy and methodology, investigating myself, and thinking about myself as an alien journalist.

An alien journalist's POV: Think of yourself in a different light. You have visited many different planets throughout your carrier, writing stories about different places, civilizations, and forms of being. You’re on planet Earth now. Here's the thing: Your species makes you uniquely suitable for understanding reality and telling stories:

  • You have no perception originating in yourself. When you look at insentient matter, you see, hear and feel nothing. After all, we live in a soundless, colorless, and shapeless world. The forest is silent, but the language we constantly hear around us tends to be deceptive about it.
  • When you look at beings, your mind simulates their experience, trying to predict what it is like to be them, e.g. the sights, sounds, feelings (body sensations) and presence right now.
  • Hence, for you, other beings are the light in you life. They are, literally, what give you light. Living through them makes you a reasoner who genuinely don't have any animal (including human) perceptual bias.
  • When you see a being, you wants good for her, because this means good for you too.

In this website you will find my thought on the big three questions: what is, what is good, and how to get there.

OK but practically who are you? I am an explorer of big secrets. A social entrepreneur trying to figure out how AI development can benefits all sentient beings. My work sits at the intersection of technology, ethics, and field building, but currently, I am not really sure what that work is, exactly...

I love being part of groups that grow new movements. I founded and relaunched several nonprofits, helped advance alternative proteins during the field’s early stages, and as an award winning journalist pioneered investigative journalism on farmed animals in Israel. Sentient, an organization I co-founded and managed for 8 years, is empowering animal investigators globally with a focus on India. This is My CV. I am now applying this background to AI safety.

Throughout my work I try to view reality and morality as close as possible to Ekho, the alien journalist. What I do is in service of this.
